About us

Waters Abrasive Blasting Services (WABS) commenced its operations in Townsville the early 90’s in by owner Michael (Mick) Waters. The team can boast well over 30 years of experience with a proven record of delivering high quality service to the North’s leading commercial, military and council industries.

With an impressively sized blast yard which features a hanging monorail area suitable for painting handrails to pipes, Overhead Crane and all the equipment or machinery needed to unload and load any item, the team are able to take on both small to large scale projects and handle them with expertise.

Our Team



Michael is the overseer and ultimate decision-maker of the organisation. With over 30 years’experience in the industry, you can rely on the fact that your project will be handled with expertise. Mick began his career in Townsville in 1982 working with a local company (NSB) for 6 years before heading to west. In WA Mick began subcontracting and working alongside companies such as Hamersley Iron, Mt.Newman, Robe River, and Leslie Salt, to name a few. In the early 90’s he returned home to Townsville to establish Waters Abrasive Blasting Services. Since its establishment Mick has managed the company to success with new and old clients of 25 years still seeking his quality services.



Chris is accountable for running the day to day operations of the company and overseeing the team. He has over 26 years’ experience as a boiler maker and over 15 years of knowledge within the Abrasive Blasting industry, a Certificate IV in Training &Assessing and experience of being a Workplace Health & Safety Officer.  Chris ran his own Engineering/Scaffolding business in Mt Isa for 5 years before moving over to work at a local Abrasive Blasting company in 2003. Chris then worked as a Boilermaker/Maintenance Manager for 3 years before being promoted to Branch Manager in 2010. In 2017 Chris decided to move home to Townsville where his family reside and found the position as Manager at WABS. Here he has helped expand operations with his local knowledge and list of contacts.


Steven is a NACE 2 Coating Inspector and is responsible for checking work for quality assurance and quoting on potential jobs. He has over 20 years’ experience in the industry.


Kym is a practiced office manager and has been with WABS since the beginning 30 years ago. She is skilled in accounts management and will always greet you with a smile when you walk through our office. Kym can assist with account queries, invoicing, bills, collections and HR matters.

LILY GLENDENNING - HSEQ/Administration Support

Lily has been with WABS for 2 years now and is completing her Bachelor of Business specializing in Business Law and Management. On top of that, she is also completing her WHS Officer Cert 4 with us to further her skillset and better our safety practices. Lily is the first point of contact for all administration matters and HR/HSEQ. She is our office all-rounder and can assist with quotations, accounts, invoicing and bills.
